Our Travel History – Australia

Australia is a BIG country. Even though we have lived here most of our lives, Simon and I have only seen a teeny tiny bit of what’s on offer. As mentioned in a previous post, we live in Adelaide, this is in South Australia, right at the bottom, in the middle of our huge continent. Over the years we’ve had lots of family vacations to beautiful places here in South Australia – the Innes National Park at the bottom of the York Peninsular is one of our favourites. It is a wild and rugged nature reserve that is great to visit in both summer and winter. We’ve had many trips there with friends and family, enjoying camping, fishing, hiking and exploring.

When we’re not holidaying here in South Australia, our special destination is the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Eumundi, Noosa and surrounding areas are really close to our hearts for a few reasons. Most of all, a family very dear to us moved there a few years ago. They are the kind of special friends that we might only see once a year now, but when we do, we just pick up where we left off. Whilst we wish they still lived just around the corner, our friends couldn’t have chosen a more beautiful spot for their sea change. They live in the picturesque hinterland village of Eumundi. And, if that’s not enough, Eumundi is just a short drive from my FAVOURITE Australian beach, Noosa Heads. I spent a part of my childhood living in Queensland, and my family spent many gorgeous sunny days at Noosa.

Road Tripping!

Road Tripping!

A few years ago, we decided to combine our regular trip to the Sunshine Coast with a road trip to explore the South East coast of Australia. It was in July (winter) so our trip included bright sunny days in Queensland and on the amazing Fraser Island, pouring rain at Byron Bay, snow at Mount Kosciuszko, and cold drizzle in Melbourne. One thing is for sure, our month long trip was not enough time to explore the areas that we visited, but it sure did wet our appetite for further travel. It’s taken us four years, but we are finally planning our great escape!

As much as we can’t wait to start exploring other countries (and return to a few favourite ones) we know that we have barely scratched the surface of what we’ve got right here in our own back yard. We don’t yet have plans for how and when, but now that we are looking forward to a future filled with travel, more road trips like this one are still on the bucket list 🙂

  1. I’d LOVE to take my family to Australia. I’m hoping to do so within the next couple of years. We have so much to explore in our own “backyard” here in Hawaii as well!

It's your turn! Please leave a comment or question.
