Two months from now we will be in Dublin, Ireland. We began Our Global Adventure on the path to Europe 18 months ago, and now that the tickets are booked, our excitement is building toward the day when that dream becomes a reality. We absolutely LOVE it here in the Bega Valley in southern New South Wales, and we don’t want our remaining time here to rush, but at the same time it’s hard not to look forward to Ireland and the travel we would like to do beyond that. We use Pinterest for our armchair travel because it’s a great online tool for digital dreaming. You can collect pictures of any topic at all, and sort them into folders (called pin boards) for future reference. For a little while now, we have been collecting inspiration for our travel to Ireland, but we also have a couple of Bucket List Folders as well, for our travel dreams beyond there. This post was meant to be about our bucket list destinations, but when I peeked into our Pinterest Boards I realised that our list was HUGE! So, in order to keep this post from getting too long, we have each come up with our top two destinations and our reasons for traveling there…
Starting with the youngest member of our family, Oscar had a bit of trouble narrowing down to just two destinations. His first choice was Scotland. He’s keen to see Castles, Loch Ness and hear a Scottish accent. His other top choice is The Amazon Rainforest, but also The Himalayas. A true adventurer at heart, Oscar has both destinations on his list because he would love to see both the greenest forests full of wildlife and the highest peaks.
Lucy’s top two destinations are Paris and London. When asked why she wanted to go to Paris, Lucy replied “It’s Paris Mum” I guess that says it all when you’re 12 years old! It’s been on her bucket list for a while, and we’ve had a long running joke about Skyping Grandma from underneath the Eiffel Tower, so I guess we just have to do it now 🙂 Lucy’s other choice is London. She’s crazy about all things Harry Potter, and within 5 minutes of arriving in London we had better be making our way to the Harry Potter Studios or we won’t hear the end of it. Lucy can’t wait to visit some of the sights featured in the Harry Potter books and films, so I guess we’ll be making our way out to Oxford as well to make that dream come true. London is also Simon and my favourite city in the whole world. There are so many wonderful people and places that we want to catch up with again, that I feel we will back to this magical city time and time again.
Simon’s top two travel destinations include one that we wished we’d been to on our first European adventure and a new addition to the mix. He’d really like to go to Russia, in particular Moscow and St Petersburg. In our home in Adelaide, he had a picture of St. Basils Cathedral in Moscow on his vision board for as long as I can remember. This time, we will get there. Simon’s second choice for top destinations is Peru in South America. He’d like to trek to Machu Picchu and learn more about Pachacuti the Incan ruler.
My top two destinations are both in Europe, but a little further east than we ventured last time. My top bucket list destination is Istanbul in Turkey. For a long time now I have dreamed about this ancient city where west meets east. I want to see The Grand Bazaar, huge Mosques and eat lots of Turkish food! My second choice is The Czech Republic. Prague, of course, is high on my must see list there, but also Cesky Krumlov the town like a Fairy Tale scene and Bohemia.
So there you have it, that should keep us going for a while, and it doesn’t even make a dent in our huge Pinterest Bucket List so I guess we better figure out a way to keep this family travelling for as long as we can 😉
Have you ever been to any of our Bucket List Destinations? What other ‘must see’ destinations do you think we should be collecting inspiration for?
